One Machine Only Challenge 14 Years, 1 Month ago
Hi all,

So i thought what may be a good way to explore the MD and its possibilities further is to try and create tunes using only ONE MD synth machine. Any number of tracks etc (im usually multitracking single bits into ableton anyways), but all sounds done using the same one machine.
Basic DAW processing (eq, compression etc..) plus cut/paste is allowed.
Anyone wants to join in ?
I started working on one which uses FM Cowbell only!
Fun!!
Will post results once done...

go for it, Androil!

We used to have "competitions" like this in the past but even more limited -- NO DAW effects or cut and paste...just one machine and song mode (multiple tracks with the same machine ok, though).

there were some pretty incredible results from those challenges that really showed what the machines were capable of. I think Actuel did an entire song with the Mono noise machine. filters ftw!

Ahh, back to the good old days

The EFM-CB is an untapped source of the tightest basses and zaps. I have a track to contest you with, if you like

We should really resurrect this "competition".

That last one was a bit difficult to do because it was collaborative (my partners were missing or too busy), but the single-machine exercises were great.

Are there any machines that we haven't explored? FM-BD? (That machine is so flexible!)

i'd love to be a part of that. i got here too late to be a part of the science labs that used to go on.

but... before you do that, submit your track for the machine album!

Cool! Great to see others joining in.
Maybe we should do this as a '2-way competition': don't tell which machine you used, so others have to guess first. Ok, i already did for my first one, but...

Anyways, hope to find some time laters to work on my FM CB tune...

I think it's equally interesting if everyone uses the same machine. Some of the magic of the early competitions was that we got so completely different results from the same machine.

The EFM-BD was used in one of the first competitions over at the Yahoo forum. It might be a nice and "soft start", as it's capable of basses, hihats, snares, melodic stuff, etc etc.
