I wonder how that lifting up the device for expression control got beyond the crazy, sort of cool, but completely impractical phase of designing the instrument.

Who would really want to use it that way?

Just doesn't make any sense in a pro-grade instrument. Seems more like something you'd see in a cheap toy.

I think it would be much more fun if it had like an overgrown joystick sticking out the top sort of like a punch ball that you could grab with both hands and luz about.
bit of a silly idea but not as silly as presently stands.

You need to be a bit of an exhibitionist, and i don't think many synth guys are except maybe emmerson or jarre. you need to be a bit bootsy or gene simmons to pull it off - failing that your looking for an injury or mid gig blackout.

I always thought a Wack-A-Mole style interface woul be pretty expressive.

Apart from the possibly totally reduntant and definately gimmicky tilt sensor in the synth, does anyone here think there might just be a channce that Radikal could have made a good sounding synth with usefull, and possibly unique production and performance features that will hopefully be within a musician friendly price range...?
....or is everyone of the mind that it is going to be total crap because it has a tilt sensor in it and the demos were hasty and recorded through a crappy mic?

I guess based on that logic, the Octatarack is going to be total crap because it has round buttons and a crossfader?

I'm just curious why all the shit-talk?

I would guess this will sound great, but be quirky in terms of operation and probably buggy at first. with the OT I guess it will be any two of those three... I really hope great sounding is one of them.

I expect that the Accelerator sounds good, even without the analog filters. I just wish that, in his effort to expand the Radikal Technologies brand, he had taken a smaller risk. It may actually be fun to play with, but it's not a feature that screams "buy me." If the sound engine is powerful enough and the price is right... I might have to eat my words.

But, I realize that this is a man's livelihood, so I do feel a bit bad for talking shit about his product. So, I'd like to wish him the best of luck, since he has to keep making the Spectralis until I can afford one.

To be fair, I don't think anyone's talked much shit about the synth as a whole, just that ridiculous 'tilt' feature. As you say, we don't much about the rest of it.

Gotta agree. Spectralis is an expensive, specialist instrument, something cheaper and more mass appealing might have been a better choice, business-wise, to get funds to pay for the R&D of his next specialist instrument.

Then again, no one will care (or even remember it exists) the ridiculous tilt sensor if the synth sounds great. The Moog Taurus is pretty ridiculous but people still love it because it sounds so awesome.

I got no idea how the synth business works though, maybe crazy millionaires love buying tons of eccentric instruments and the Radikal guy is actually filthy rich.
