Suppose you could do with an actual 909 though really to do this kind of work.

Ideally yes, that is how I did the 808 and DR-55 emulations, I actually sold my 808 after doing that MD kit though as I did not really use it that much afterwards

But I have a friend with a 909 so in the next few weeks I will see if I can get hold of it (or at least some decent samples) I'm aiming to do the whole emulation without using any rom machines so our non UW brethren can get some 909 action, plus its always nice to leave the rom slots available for other stuff.

I kind of got sidetracked with the driving the Gakken and MS-10 from the MD lately though

Emulation is time consuming and arduous, but ultimately quite rewarding I think

You can use the E-12 BR (Brush) machine in for that 909 snare (turn "Real" all the way to opposite direction)
you'll need to fine-polish it with the EQ and AM after that..

The FM BD machine is almost instant-909.
It'll be difficult to get those "splashy" type of 909 snares, but you might want to combine the snare that Hageir recommended and add an FM SN (filtering out certain frequencies).

Bumper cars.

You guys are awesome. Please post more Emulations.
The 808 one is very well done and i had too much fun with it.
Please, add anything else you can, 909, linndrum, 707, and any others.

High five!

I had very accurate emulation of 606 (even with output noise), but I've deleted it long ago!

Shame since, someone could have enjoyed it..

Actually I was thinking the opposite - since it's pretty easy, you could do those too.

Right now, I don't have time to do any, but here's how I did earlier ones.

1. Decide the machine you want to emulate
2. Pick up samples you think are a good representation of the machine
3. Set up your work conditions so that you can listen the sample from your computer and MD at the same time. Make sure that the sample and MD has same exact volume (use meters)
4. Start adjusting the machine parameters to emulate the sample. Use of real time spectrum analysator makes it a lot easier, since you can see the original frequencies
5. Try different machines to find out which is most suitable for task. For 606 BD I had to use TRX-BD with GND-IMP to get attack-phase right.
6. When parameters are correct, record the MD to your computer and fine tune the decay with the help of wave-editor and original sample.
7. Repeat the process for rest of the samples.

Thanks for the reply and info Toni.
Much appreciated.
If you have any links to the spectrum analysator, wave-editor or original sample.
That would help.

But seeing as I'm pressed for time as well.

post any here when you have the time.

And everyone else get back to work !
