Yeah, it's the Mercenary Ed.
I haven't found more than one API second hand (at a high price) , and I got a much better price on a Drawmer here in Norway. Price is (sadly) a very decisive factor for me.

Buying from the States seems very tempting when you look at the exchange rate, but usually it'll cost 35-40% more due to shipping and taxes. The API would have cost me around $2800, a Distressor pair around $3000, and the Drawmer was around $1800.

I like the fact that the 1968 has valves (gimmickry??), a "big" switch for better bass response (like on the API?) and dual mono as well as stereo operation (unlike the API).

Anyway, this is a process that's just started for me, so if I'm not happy with the 1968 I'll sell it and save up for a pair of Distressors.

Any opinions on the Fatso Jr?

i think i have finally settled down with the kit i need and here it is:
machinedrum sps1 uw mk1 !!!
monomachine sfx 60 mk1 !!!
these are the balls and brains of my setup
access virus ti polar
x0xb0x
yamaha cs 01
yamaha vss 30
casio sk 1
cheetah md 16 (for sale)
lexicon mpx 550 (for compression mostly)
korg kp3
roland re 201 space echo
mackie 1202 mixer
lot's of circuit bent toys, keyboards, drum machines and pedals that i don't really use as much as i used to
i record live with no editing through an m-audio firewire 1814 into live 6 on my little black macbook and erase most of what i make after a listen or two.
the polar has changed a lot of things for me, i've only had it for a couple of weeks but it's the most powerful and fun synth i've ever owned. had a spectralis for a bit but traded it for the polar ( someone on this board is having fun with that beast now)
i gotta say it's been really hard narrowing down what i will really will use and i've bought, sold and traded a shitpile of gear over the last six or nine years. is there a thread detailing people journey through kit to get to where they are now with their setup?

Funny how most everyone around here has now sold their Blofeld's: PT, JS, and Actuel, possibly others I don't know about.

yeah, i can't speak for the others but i really liked the Blofeld's sound but not the menu diving. if they every repackage the Blofeld in a keyboard version or with more knobs i'd be interested again. great sounding synth though.

It seems alll of us are minimalists when it comes to gear... and don't like to have things that get in the way.
