ok, i believe i've extended the word count. i don't use netnewswire or any other outside aggregator besides Google Reader. i tested there, in Safari's built-in RSS reader, and the OS X widget. All appear to be working with the extended word count.
it will still display, 'read more...' but you should be getting the full post.
