lets say Im working on a 16th note pattern and I want to 'expand' it out to 64 notes by switching the pattern length button. is there anything I need to do to the sequence before I switch to be able to expand the pattern out?

Nope. Mash func and the scale button (right of the trig buttons) down and just extend it. There's an option in preferences that lets you decide whether you want te OT to duplicate your existing trigs to the extended section or not.
