Jomox 888 anybody? 11 Years, 7 Months ago
So I think at some point in my day to day setup I'd like to replace my 707 with something a bit more fancy like the Jomox 888.

Anybody use one in conjunction with a MD. My gut tells me they'd compliment nicely and with a bit more flexibility than the MD/707 combo.

No experience with the 888 but I did own a 999 for about a year. To put it shortly, bad sequencer and the sound is nice in isolation, but it's hard to make it work in a mix. I wouldn't recommend buying one, unless you find a nice 2nd hand deal so you can try it out.

I'd rather wait for the new MFB drum machine. Judging from youtube clips, MFB drums sound better and the new machine is supposed to have adult sized knobs and a sturdier construction than their previous models.

Interesting. Thanks for the tips. I've always heard about general Jomox weirdness.

In a way the 707 fits really well in a mix with the MD. It's kind of ideal, but I get bored sometimes by the 707ness of it.

Will keep a lookout on the MFB.

I was fortunate to get my hands on one to try when visiting a fellow user. The sequencer was easy on the 888 and the sound was something that made me think about having one someday BUT when implementing MIDI functions, it seems to hiccup and have bugs still.

I know it may sound wasteful but I was really enjoying running it thru the OT and glitching it a bit further. Stand alone it was rad but not sure how it would fit into my setup... Would also recommend getting your hands on one to try if possible or finding one second hand...I hope this helps..best regards

Anyway. Thanks a ton for the input. Kind of what I needed to hear. I really want something relatively simple but not as one dimensional as the 707 to go with my MD. The 888 was my obvious choice, but I also don't want complications. Will await this new MFB eagerly.

I had a Jomox999 for a while, on which you can also load the 888 OS for getting some features the 999 doesn't offer like metalizer, etc. The kick, snare and some other sounds were awesome and in general the sequencer is easy to use, but overall the OS was so buggy - was really a pain in the ass. The only thing that worked well for me was using the jomox box as a sound module and programm my patterns with the MD (which seems a bit of an overkill regarding the price of an 888 or 999).
I sold mine to get a DSI Tempest, which is not perfect yet, but works much better for me than the Jomox stuff. Also had an Acidlab Miami for some time, which is great, but since it only it has a mono output (except the individual outs for each sound) I was lacking panning options.

Sorry for being unclear. There are no clips yet for the new MFB, I was just judging from the old MFB drummachine clips, which I rather like. The new one will hopefully sound even better!
