A4 - Cable tips for CV out? 10 Years, 9 Months ago
I've been looking online for good cables to use as CV out on my analog four, into my modular eurorack system. I don't want to go for any solution that use a 6.35-female-to-3.5-male connector plug, because that puts too much weight and pressure onto the inputs of my modular system.

Ideally, i'd like to use my normal 3.5mm patchcables in my modular system, so the best solution i see is to find a cable that converts a 6.35 male stereo jack (which goes into the A4) into two mono female 3.5 jacks....but i can't find these anywhere.

What are you guys using for this?

Radioshack has the little splitters that take 2 1/8 inch mono cables and convert them to 1/4 inch.

They work great. Control my Anushri with my A4 (same exact cabling/jacks as your modular)

Also be careful that the females are wried correctly. You want an "insert" style splitter where the TS male is wired to the TS of one of the females and the other female get the RS of the male wired to its TS. There are splitters that wire both the T and R of the male to the T of both females (which you do not want).

Off the self, at the OT 6.35mm TRS to 3.5mm TRS, then a 3.5mm insert cable, the 3.5mm TS.

Something like:

Other than that, solder up your own.

I find a lot of single cable solutions on the market that have the 6.35mm and 3.5mm in the opposite positions of what is needed for this application.

Yes, just don't get stereo. Get Phono adapters meant to split a single signal. That means they'll both send the same exact CV on each patch cable (and you'll be able to control CV A, B, C, and D no problem.

How would that work? That leaves me with two similar stereo signals on 1/8 inch jacks, right?

no, it leaves you with two mono signals. Each CV (A, B, C, D) sends a different message to a different parameter on your modular, and, while both cables will send a 5v signal, only one will be sending the message meant to modulate that parameter.

Trust me. I can fully sequence and modulate my Anushri with all 4 possible CV controls. Clock, gate, vco and vcf are all controlled with 2 of those and 4 1/8'' Phono cables.

Yep, that's what I ended up doing.... I HAD to make a pair to control my Moog Prodigy & Rogue, since they have very unique CV/Gate inputs (ONLY accept stereo plugs).
