The UW Science Lab #04 is a remix focused Lab. The file to be remix is provided by Battery Collection (Joe Melnyk). This original file was a MD SPS-1 contest entry from October 2004 (from the Yahoo Group).

Remixing is an art form unto itself. Take your time and have fun mangling. Joe's track provides an excellent starting point. I have compiled a Lab package HERE, or you can find it by visiting Downloads/Science Labs/Science Lab #04.The package contains:

Original Sysex
An MP3 of the file submitted
Sample Pack

04 Lab rules: Upload the original sysex file, UW only...no other hardware or vsts can be added, you can use your UW to remix this file however you want, anything in the UW goes, and no overdubbing or postproduction. Entries should at least 1 min. long. Post your MP3 submission here (just click Upload): Downloads/Science Labs/Science Lab #04.

Lab closes on January 30th. Good luck and mangle away!

Ok, so now I have the files, and have loaded them in.
Just so I understand the premises..
I can use the samples provided, and do whatever I like with the song?

Can I also use my own samples, or shall I stick to the provided samples+ram-machines?

I ask because all sounds in the original kit is made from one machine, no samples

It's my first attempt on a Science Lab, therefore I ask..

hi Pelektor. all good questions. typically on the Labs there are very restrictive rules. on this one, there are very very few.

you have to just use the samples provided, but can use the RAM machines, plus any of the on-board MD sounds. simply, no personal ROM sounds, use sample pack if you want, and go nuts

I thought there might be something wrong happening when I uploaded it, so i tried again, but got the message: file already exists..

You don't remember where you put it?

Do you remember what you named it? Maybe I can track it down. In the worst case scenario, if you can remember the name, I can delete whatever file name you gave the original.

How long ago did you upload it? Do you see the file in the "Latest Files" module to the right >

Its called UW#4-pelektor.mp3
I uploaded it a couple of days ago, and it hasn't been in the latest files on the side..
Maybe it's got something todo with the # sign in the name?

Edit: and I put it under science lab files for MDUW (at least that was my intention.. )
