An experiment with Autechre-style rhythms 10 Years, 9 Months ago

I used my computer to send modulated clock data to a Machinedrum, Monomachine and an Akai AX60, achieving some nice jittery constantly changing patterns.

It was too chaotic and unstructured to my liking. Then again, I'm a simpleton who likes simple boom boom boom rhythms, so take my words with a grain of salt.

it does have that uncompromising smell of lp5 meets move of ten
I feel it needed something extra (bass or melody) to enhance the rhythm

Everything you own ends up owning you.

I like it just how it is, some lovely rhythmic spurts and tripping stutters and some quality sounds too. Experiments are good!

Yeah I thought about adding some more bass parts, but I liked the occasional bass drum stab being the only real punch, I feel like it gave the rhythm the space it deserved by not over crowding the mix.

Thanks for the kind words Beardy Jack, this one really was just an experiment. Only took a couple hours to make and it was my first real exploration into non-linear rhythms.

Every track here is made live using only the monomachine and the octatrack (no pc):

cool stuff

would love to see some more work on this, but the simpleness actually suits it good anyway

kind of interesting but i don't know what it has to do w/autechre.

it lacks that one thing that binds it all together.. the warm gooey center that the chaos floats around.

you should work on it some more.. apply some of that to just parts.. stricter control of the modulations and find the 'funk' in it.

It doesn't have anything to do with AE, it's just that I used techniques for this similar to what they've used in the past.
