Hey. Curious if anyone is up for this.

i was having a lot of fun recently sampling random youtube videos. Anyone up for a fun OT game?

Game is:

1) Select one Youtube video
2) Make into new song via OT only
3) Upload to Soundcloud?

Possibe rules:
Only 24 hours to create track after video selected, or a different time.
No external processing
No Multitracking
Some kind of song size minimum and maximum?

I was thinking with how easy and quick it is with the OT, and how much you can do, it'd be interesting to see what other people come up with the same material.

too bad the OT can only sample max 15 seconds, it would be nice if it truly was on OT only, and not even using computer recording...

Anyone up for it?

I think it might make things more complex. I guess we could do both, but I think it might be easier for someone to just link to a Youtube. If we could have a voting mechanism too, maybe whoever's remix everyone likes, they can go and select the next youtube. 24 hours to create, 48 hours to vote, and another? so each 3 days could be another? somewhat of that?



For tracks, 8 would be the limit anyway right?

Something about this idea tickles me the right way. I'm in. I know exactly the YouTube audio I'd want to use. EDIT: oops, I only now realized the very premise is ONE chosen YouTube vid for all to mangle, not one choice for each submission.

Unless future rules state otherwise, I thought I'd record a .wav from the vid, load it to the OT and Static or Flex it as needed to the tracks.

Fun concept!

i´ve already chosen one, not quite the thing as someone would expect, but i think it sounds more natural -> no porn vids

so if the rule is to use one video, it would be nice to know if the soundfile should be mangled and cuted only in the octatrack

and by the way, i have quite a lot of other things to do and i don´t spend 24h with my OT, so within 48h nothing is possible, more time is needed

Yea, I would say, only if recording the entire file should one be using anything other than the Octatrack.

No editing outside of it, then things get too messy.

And if the file is recorded it should be recorded from the youtube, so we're all using the same quality. As is to say, one song is on the video, someone's not using a wav that's of higher fidelity.

The only reason to keep it 24 or 48 hour is to keep things moving. To make it a game, and nothing really serious I think one thing about the OT is how fast someone can really output something

How much time would you need? would something posted on a Sunday night, and finalized by a Friday night be more suitable?

Yea 1 rule, only one video, for all submissions, no other audio sources. All audio sources must be from the video. And also, only Octatrack, even other Elektron devices are excluded. No external processing.

I think for a MD uW game it would be possible. Why not start one of those too?
