Royal Tenebaums is an absolute classic. Did you like A Life Aquatic too?

i did. i own both. life aquatic definitely gets better the more you watch it. i saw it in the theater and was speechless at the end of it. not because i thought it was amazing, but because i had no idea what to think about what i had just seen -- i had never seen a movie like it. now i think it's really funny. and sad. but really funny.

i saw darjeeling as well, but couldn't get into it as much. bottle rocket of course is hilarious. . . rushmore i think i need to see again, but that's a very "boy" movie.

I know exactly what you mean. Massive expectation after RT which left me feeling a bit flat with Life Aquatic but it definitely warms on repeat viewing. Bottle Rocket - brilliant. Never really got Rushmore. Darjeerling just gone on my 'to watch' list.

I tend to like quirky stuff. Pretty much every Coen Brothers film. Stuff like Welcome To Collinwood, Buffalo 66, foreign films.

Welll it used to be Ian Banks for non sci fi and Ian m Banks for Sci Fi, same bloke different styles.

Now itsjust Ian Banks for whatever style.

For non Sci Fi read the Wasp Factory everyone should, its wicked.
For SciFi i'd say Transition or Surface Detail.

Surface detail for instance goes into people living their lives in virtual realities, ie their soul uploaded into (computer) memory - the creation of hell in virtual reality, and inhabitants being subjected to it. for instance.

Cheers Duncan, you know what it would be really cool if we had a "recommended to check out" section on the forum, maybe with sections for books, music, films, food etc and short and to the point descriptions just how you did with Surface Detail. Be handy for finding new stuff
