Is it possible to trigger drones with the Octatrack?
Like with the dark time:

I am using some of the techniques in that thread to make drones using the sampling and effects features of the Octatrack.

If, however, by "trigger drone" you mean triggering an external synth via MIDI from the Octatrack sequencer, you might want to post more details about what you are trying to do and what the issue is.

Yes I want to trigger my external synths and get them "endlessly" droning.

With a cv sequencer I suppose I would only send a gate signal to the synths?

But is it possible to send just an "on" message with the Octatrack?
Or should I use actual notes of some sort?

I'm more interested of recording my live "drones" straight to Ableton then working with samples within the Octatrack.

you can set note length to infinite on the OT. on some synths you can also turn up the VCA independently from the its envelope. evolver is really great at droning like that, for example.

thanks! that's exactly the info i needed.

does that go for the desktop version of the evolver as well?
and some other recommendations on synths were you can keep the vca open
independent from the envelope?

The Moog LP and slim phatty will drone with a dummy cable plugged into the gate. AFAIK, the minitaur does not trigger the gate with a dummy plug.

Any synth with a CV gate in (V-trig, not S-trig)-> 9V battery wired to a TS cable.

yup, evo desktop can do it. mopho can as well, so maybe all dsi? otherwise the only other one i can think of out of the synths i've played (which is not many) is aalto. if you're open to software, it's an extremely cool vst that is amazing for drones.
