MnM and MD midi-setup question. 19 Years, 3 Months ago
Hello boys and girls.

I got a monomachine in the beginning of this summer and a mahinedrum uw last week. Happy times.

Right now I'm just trying to get my fonk on with theese two puppies in a small set-up just beeing midi out from the md to midi in on the mnm and audio out from the mnm to audio in on the md, headphones in the md.

Simple and fun, right? I would imagine this setup is quite common.

If I just want the mnm to respond to transport-commands (start, stop...) and not note related messages. I will play my mnm patterns from the mnm sequencer thats just slaved to the md clock.

Simplest possible set-up really but I'm wondering what the midi-settings of each machine sould be with base channels and all that jazz.

Any ideas folks?

On the MD:
- go into global parameters, change control to (external).
- make sure that whatever kit you use has an Input machine on it. You will have to have at least one note-on trig to open up the amp envelope

On the MNM:
- go into global parameters, and in the control 'stuff,' there should be settings about what sort of information the MNM recieves from MIDI IN info (whether or not it responds to note-trigs, or whether or not it simply responds to start/stop). There will also be a comparable settings (ala the MD) as to whether or not the MNM uses an internal or external MIDI clock.

I don't have my stuff in front of me, so I can't get any more specific than this, but hopefully this will get you headed in the right direction.

Thanks man, I'm with you so far. MD sends midiclock and MnM recieves it. The only thing I'm having trouble with is that I want the MnM and MD to use different midichannels (MnM ch 1-6, MD 7-10?) so the MD bassdrum does not trigger the C2 (or whatever) of track one on the MnM.

Maybe thats not the way to do it, but still...

My MD didn't come with a manual (it's on it's way) and my computer is not close to the MD.

try to use the input gate machine on the md. it is made for passing through external audio and does not react to trigs...

cheers

On the MD, you should be able to set the base MIDI channel to something that's out of the range of the MNM. You'll access this in your global parameters. I'm positive you can do the same on the MNM. I had to change the MIDI settings of my MD back when I used it in tandem with my MPC1K. Basically, find out what MIDI channels you're using on your MNM through accessing the global settings, and set your MD's base channel to something else.

Hope this does the trick.
