"There really should be no reason for people getting upset here because Elektron have just given us what we wanted which was not capable before, props to 'em."

Yeah I agree and I am not upset with elektron for this at all

Just I dont like the limited stock marketing technique thats all. They are good enough to do without it.....

However maybe I would not have upgraded my machinedrum if they did not scare me into it.....so they probably did me a favour!? :-D

Damn! What a let down.

I thought it might be a new t-shirt.

Come on fellas, how about a nice orange one!

I'm pleased the mono isn't too much removed from the "classic" as it's now being called as I can't afford anything at the minute... apart from a nice new t-shirt!

Now that the MkII's have been released, what of my MD that is there with you being upgraded? I am assuming it will come back to me as the UW Classic version. In that case, I must say that I am a little bit confused as to why you would offer these upgrades with the imminent release of the MkII.

Jon's response:

Because there is no way of upgrading the MKI's to MKII's. So if you have a Machinedrum MKI and want UW capability there is no real choice. Therefore we thought it would be fair to still offer the upgrades.

Also, we will of course support the OS of the MKI units as well. I can absolutely, positively inform you that you won't be left out in the cold.

Looks like the MKII's have different/better DSP engines + more memory. So on the software side... time will tell if it is interesting to sell the MKI's and get the MKII's?

I feel like my MnM has significantly declined in value since last week. Kinda bummed.

I guess it depends on whether you are talking about 'value' as a music making device, or as a financial investment with future monetary return...

So, I sent this email to Jon in response to the one he sent me earlier:

Hi Jon,

I just wanted to point out one more thing to you. Did you guys not consider the fact that rather than upgrade my SPS-1 to a UW, I would probably rather upgrade to a UW MkII? In other words, I would have sold my SPS-1 and then used the $700 (upgrade + shipping) I spent on the UW MkI upgrade to buy the MKII. In effect, what you guys have done is both cost yourselves about $1000 and left me with no reasonable option (monetarily) to move up to the MkII. Kind of a bummer.

I know you guys like to keep in touch with your userbase, and I felt it necessary to make these points to you. Make no mistake, I still love your products (I also have a SFX-6), and can't wait to have my MD back!

Do I sound bitter? :-D

MkII would not fit so nicely next to your sfx-6.

They don't sit next to each other in my studio anymore. :-?

Plus, I don't think I would ever take my SFX-6 out live. I never have before.
