everyone has their preferred work flow, that sounds like a good one,
i agree with the software issue, and the g2, that's why i thought about selling mine, still might, i make songs, not complex patches,,, its more important to me to have my time heavily skewed twords songs, and some sound design,,, with the g2 sound design becomes an end in itself practically,,, if u aren't careful,,,, and if don't spend the extra time,,, it just sounds like a lead ,,,,
i like to turn on my oct, anal 4, and a few synths, tweak it all live till i got something,,,,, then record it, thats why i try to get kinda simple but good sounding stuff, and since i dont have the most cash, a bit of versatility,
