i took my MD into the shop (academy of sound in nottingham) and tried it out with various speakers. after much experimentation i ended up with a pair of Alesis M1 MKII's
i noticed they turned my desk into a bass bin so now i have them sitting on foam speaker stand things and they sound sweeet.

Genelec 8030a's, I never get tired of them, and I couldn't fit the Mackie 824's in the space I have.

great thread! i'm on the lookout for monitors as well....
i know they aren't necessarily earmarked for nearfield studio monitoring, but does anyone have any experience/thoughts on Paradigm? I've been eyeing the Monitor 5s recently....
also, please let me know if this interest betrays any ignorance w/r/t proper monitoring for music production, as i am somewhat a neophyte to a good signal path from synth to ear!

My alesis monitor 1 mk2 actives were really good until they started getting this annoying problem where they wouldn't turn on, just get a flashing power light. My mates got the same model, same problem. Now, one of them has properly blown. Its a shame because I think they have a really good sound, perhaps a touch too much bass to be a good flat response but that might be the way I've got em placed...
