I wish I was as enthusiastic as you are right now, I think it's awesome you're diving into your pallette like this.
for recommendations for pad machines, and from your responses in here - you're looking for multitimbral? and I'm assuming you want some strong programmability as well?
The waldorf XT is definitely a good choice for that - hit me up with questions if you want. Looks like alot of other people around here are down with the XT too, so you'll be in good company

Another one is the Yamaha FS1R - it's not just an FM synth, it's a lush multitimbral INSANE pad machine

That's actually what I've used it most for.
The Matrix 1000 is good too - I have one and hadn't used it in months, but a week ago I turned it on and was amazed that I don't use it more often. It's a beautiful machine for instant analog pads, I personally don't like the envelope speed for anything but pads/etc, not as snappy as I'd like. But it's a nightmare to program without a computer editor (it is possible!) Not multitimbral.
Other things to think about - you've got some GREAT outboard gear, look into old string/ensemble synths - I've been obsessed with them for a couple of years so I know I'm biased. The Roland RS-09 is a great one, as are the string machines made by Crumar (my Orchestrator is permanently plugged into my Ensoniq DP/4 )
