Hi all -

I'll be getting a UW in a few days, and I'm excited to get involved with the Machinedrum world! Now, at least, I'll be able to answer UW tech support questions

Our contests have, to date, focused on creating kits and getting deep into sound design. I'd like to try having a contest which emphasizes song arrangement skills. How about we select one of the winning contest entries, use its kit and pattern sysex, and submit songs spun from that pattern? We've got a backlog of kits on both the Mono and the UW to choose from.

Also, if someone would like to help define rules for a UW contest, that would be great. We'll need a sample pack of some kind to get started.

You should have the first UW contest be structured around kotten's feedback technique.

That is a totally cool thing he figured out, but I was thinking doing something a little more basic for the first contest would get a greater number of people interested.

I have heared about a strange thing called songmode, i never have used it...

Songs are made from some funkypatterns,recmode and mutes... pusch rec on cpu and play on elektronbox and see what happends....

Elektron's song mode is really clever. You can build larger patterns from single patterns, play with mutes and transposition, all sorts of stuff. Since song mode has very flexible loop points, you can still jam and improvise, but the building blocks for the improvisation can be more complex.

I think that the song idea is good - download someones pattern+kit and can only use song mode to create a variation. I guess it would be more like a remix contest though but why not.

About UW, one or two samples might be enough since you can do so much with the retrig and start levels. I think especially if the ram machines should be involved (even without feedback) things can get very complex and confusing anyway. Maybe just that, and no ram machines to start with? Then the usual like one pattern, around a minute etc...
