There in lies the problem, they wont stomp on an older product and most likely will not make something that would make people choose between them.
Making something that is different enough from the other stuff to make it more so desirable along side what they already produce.

we'll see if i have to eat my words one daythats a great point. It takes a hellish amount of brainstorming and design to come up with a suitable answer as we are discovering here.
MD MONO ?
I think some kind of advanced UW would be really nice and fit the bill. It wouldnt stomp on the drum machine of the MD. What are the limitations and boundaries they put on these things? Cost, Ease of use, Processing speed, Simplicity, Musicality. Also The MD and Mono are derived from lots of different parts of music tech history that have proven to be basic, fun and useable. So where in history are they looking now, if at all? That post about the synclavier recently was great. What a piece of kit. Or maybe they have completely new ideas and will come up with somthing completely new. All I know is what I would like to design and build.
