[diy] building a double midi switch for TM01 16 Years ago
Hi all,

i was thinking of building a midi switch for the TM01.

In order to be able to have my md connected to midi in and out to my pc,
and to flick 1 switch to have my md connected to midi in and out to my setup hardware instead.

so i can backup and transfer sample without physically unplugging my md from my other machines.

i opened the TM01 and the midi connections are standard. pin 4 and 5 for current.
pin 2 for shield at midi out only.

i plan to get a 4 pole (changeover?) switch and 6 midi sockets in a small plastic enclosure.

i am posting since i am still a bit of a n00b in electronic, so do you guys see any reason why my idea should not work ?

thanks!!

in fact i did it using 2 switches for a total of 6 poles.
so one dpdt switch for switching the 2 ground lines. one 4 pdt for switching the 2 data lines and 2 +5v lines.

i actually just finished it and first test i could backup and verify all memory and it did not find any errors. joy!

two triple pole triple throw switches for this.. can be a little tricky to find but anyway i like the idea of the center position 'buffer'

it works great, but should not bbe flipped while the sequencer is running.

have fun!

I think there won't be problems unless you want to do live midi switch. Altho I don't know much about midi, but I guess as it is a kind of code. you need some "stop" message after something is "started" so you might get some neverending events if you do it live.

But as you say all you'll do are just stop before switching. It will be fine I think.
