Idea about future OSs of Elektrons for analog gear. 12 Years, 1 Month ago
Hi !

Since the MD, the MnM and the OT have several outputs, do you think it could be possible to add a new machine :

A CV/gate combo on 2 outputs (i know triggers work with imp on the MD).

It should be doable, a CV machine, or am i dreaming ?
I know that softwares like motu volta allow this with a soundcard, so, why not on the elektrons ?

Just a thought.

Something inside me says, this volta stuff only worked with dc/coupled outputs..
Not exactly sure what this means.. but sounds like "direct current attached to output" ..

So, if the nice elektron people can "put electricity" on the output because that dc/coupled stuff
is also in the elektron gear... hmm yeah.. should be possible.. if they program it..

Then again.. it would be a unique selling point... OUR GEAR HAS CV in IT.. so that almost screams to me... they would if they could..

anyways.. my 2cents.. i hope it was worth your reading time enjoy your day..

you need DC coupled hardware outputs for this, in first place. Not a new Machine
DC coupling means that a Capacitor is in the signal path who has to eliminate DC offsets.

@Lost - don't you mean that the outputs must be DC coupled (no capacitor), since CV and gates are DC?

It's going a bit technical....
lostinthemanual : are you saying it's not possible with the elektron's outs ?

ahh shit, mixpusled it, sorry
AC coupled means it has a Capacitor.

it is to expect that the outputs are AC coupled.
AC coupling means that no CV will flow thru it.
and to bypass the cap would make no sense on a octa.
Folks have donne this on clavia modulars. NM1 + IIRC also on G2

Not trying to be a smart ass, but why not just use a MIDI to CV converter?

Get a MIDI thru box + a couple of Kenton pros and voila, 8 analog synths controlled at the same time via OT. To get that kind of control directly from the box they would need to fit 16 1/4" output jacks on the back, not likely.

That's what i do, thank you.
I am just speaking of improving the elektrons, using less gear, spending less money and thinking of the most compact setup possible.
