Octaback, octashock! 10 Years, 7 Months ago
Octatrack is back in the house, yay!

Octatrack appears to be giving me minor electric shocks when plugged into the mains, even when not turned on... Boo!

Anyone have any ideas as to why this could be? It seems to be working fine though if I touch the panel screws when using it I get the unnerving feeling electricity is running though me!

Edit: strangely it seems fine when plugged into a four way plug.

Is it doing it without any audio or midi connected?

Sounds like an earth issue maybe, where there is a voltage difference between two earths.
Make sure your using the same power circuit for all gear.

I get this on my mduw & mnm if I dont have them plugged into my mixer . I think it's due to the switch mode power supply.
See.....

Yeah, is doing it with nothing else connected - I have a spare psu and will try that tonight.

Right then almost certain it is related to the SMPSU, if it works ok in the 4 way lead it is an earthing issue or other problem in the socket where you are getting the shock, it could be a loose earth wire, or it could be that the live and neutral are reversed somewhere, or it could be another problem.

Try as Neil suggested and use the MD PSU in the same socket where you were getting the shock - and I assume you are talking that kind of tingly shock rather than a zap?

Have a read of the link twistedspace posted it gives a fairly decent explanation. I really am not a fan of these type of PSU for these and other problems, but they are in pretty much everything today.

This is normal.

It's the power of elektron transferring to your body.
Dont fight it, just let it enter your body.

It's a feature not a bug?

Cheers for the shouts, ill try on another psu and see if its the same. Sounds like its normal though(?)- definitely tingly rather than hair raising!
